I also love to save money. So loved reading this lovely post, Allie. I guess boys would have loved the idea of ice cream and mini-golf. Direct Energy sounds awesome. I’m with you Allie, rooms with lights and TV’s on are my nemesis too! I loved reading your post today and learning about a “Nest Learning Thermostat” I had no idea what it was and so cool that Direct Energy has such awesome partnerships with The Children’s Miracle Network and Plenti – I’d vaguely heard of Plenti rewards but had not looked into it – then I read about it here again. Here in Georgia, we have Jackson EMC – and the savings over other power company’s is substantial – and – to sweeten the deal, at the end of the year I get a check in the mail – a “sharing of profits” check – how cool is that eh?!
I hope you and all your boys have a wonderful weekend – and I hope it’s free of that white stuff so you don’t have to crank your thermostat up high! Also, btw, you have a beautiful home!

In reply to Frances Swartz. Hi Frances, thanks for dropping by. That's so interesting what John does. I had no idea all the data research that goes into the electricity rates. It reminds me a little of what goes on behind the scenes with advertising on the web. There are all kinds of ad companies competing for ad fill space with various ad agencies, and there's bidding going on behind the scenes all the time. It's very technical and beyond me, but pretty fascinating.

Hi Allie. This was interesting. I wish we had choices in Florida. Our oldest son, John, works for a company that services various power/electric companies in New England. Because of the competition, the companies are always looking for ways to save money and cut costs. They calculate all sorts of data….even the amount of electricity lost coming from the street to your house….They tell the companies when to buy electricity on commodity exchange. Way beyond me. I hope he is part of saving you some $$. I’ll ask him if DirectEnergy is one of his clients..

What a great discovery!! Our neighbors and I were just discussing this very thing. Energy bills here on the West Coast are outrageous and some neighbors have even received letters that they are using too much energy (and they are only a two person family). I am going to check this company out and pass along to my neighbors if applicable! Thank you!
